As part of its Health Forward Initiative, St. Luke’s reimagined its emergency department to better serve patients with faster access, enhanced privacy, and an environment that promotes safety and dignity. The expansion addressed critical limitations of the existing facility—outdated layout, constrained capacity, and limited treatment spaces—while positioning the hospital as the region’s provider of choice for emergent and specialty care.
Completed in carefully managed phases, the redesigned ED tripled its original capacity, creating 37 private treatment rooms, an efficient registration and triage process, and improved circulation for both patients and care teams. The new design also incorporates a dedicated behavioral health unit, an adjacent ambulance garage, and a helipad to accelerate emergency response.
To advance cardiac care for the region, later phases introduced catheterization labs, CT imaging, and a cardiac rehabilitation gym—creating a fully integrated environment where technology, compassion, and care converge.
