Family Healthcare of Hagerstown, a Federally Qualified Health Center, delivers primary, dental, and mental health care through a “medical home” model—all in one accessible location. Facing the dual challenge of rebranding and relocation, the FQHC partnered with ERDMAN to reimagine an underutilized half-century-old office building into what would become a welcoming, high-performing clinical environment.

Through adaptive reuse, the four-story structure was transformed into a modern, multiservice health center designed to enhance care delivery and patient experience. The facility features integrated care team spaces, centralized check-in, and color-coded wayfinding that simplifies navigation. Energy-efficient infrastructure supports performance while the overall design reflects warmth, dignity, and accessibility.

Today, the clinic meets the needs of an expanding patient population and stands as a visible, revitalized hub for care and connection in the Hagerstown community.

I think ERDMAN is well aware that the standard for a healthcare facility is more than just bricks and mortar. We didn’t want to have to explain what an exam room should look like or how patient flow should operate.

People have a lot of choices and why should they come to us over anywhere else? We’ve been here for about a year and a half, and there are very few things that we would change.
