David Banta Joins ERDMAN to Help Shape What’s Next in Senior Living

September 10, 2026

ERDMAN welcomes David Banta, AIA, as Senior Living Market Sector Leader. With more than four decades of architectural experience and more than 25 years focused on senior living, David brings deep industry knowledge, design leadership, and a forward-looking perspective that will strengthen ERDMAN’s ability to help senior living organizations navigate an evolving market and respond to the changing needs and expectations of older adults.

Throughout his career, David has planned and designed communities spanning independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, Life Plan Communities, affordable senior housing, and multifamily residential environments. His experience also includes serving as an owner’s representative during construction of two Life Plan Communities, giving him an additional perspective on how design decisions translate into successful project outcomes.

“David brings a depth of senior living knowledge that goes well beyond design,” said Todd Hudgins, Senior Vice President, Senior Living. “He understands the forces reshaping the industry—from changing resident expectations and affordability to evolving models of care and community. Combined with his design leadership and collaborative approach, that perspective will strengthen how we work with clients to create communities that perform today while anticipating what comes next.”

David is also an active voice in advancing the senior living industry. He has previously served on the Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures Advisory Board and the Environments for Aging Editorial Advisory Board and has held multiple leadership roles with the AIA Design for Aging Knowledge Community. A frequent industry speaker, David has addressed topics ranging from senior living affordability and active adult communities to innovation, sustainability, and emerging design trends.

His thought leadership has appeared in Healthcare Facilities Today, Provider Magazine, Forbes, and McKnight’s Senior Living, exploring issues including aging in place, workforce and technology, long-term care demand, and how design can better respond to the changing needs of older adults.

What attracted me to ERDMAN is the opportunity to bring together deep senior living expertise, strategy, and design to help clients respond to where the industry is headed. The expectations of older adults are changing, and I’m excited to work with our clients and teams to create communities that not only meet today’s needs but anticipate how people will want to live in the future,” Banta said.
