Achieving strategic goals through standardization and rapid deployment

Recognizing the increasingly important role that urgent care can have in a health system’s viability, Tenet Healthcare chose ERDMAN as their partner to deploy their three-year national urgent care strategy. The project included design and construction of 50 urgent care clinics varying in size from 2,500 to 6,000 square feet each, encompassing both freestanding and adaptive reuse of retail space. Services within the clinics include lab, exams and imaging.

ERDMAN worked with all stakeholders to develop a detailed playbook and delivery plan that allowed for standardization, rapid facility deployment, and continuous process and product improvement. The MedPost brand is now one of the largest and most successful providers of urgent care in the United States.

Hospital supports local physicians with a state-of-the-art medical office building that offers consolidated services in a single location with comprehensive specialty care

The Good Samaritan Medical Office Building was created to consolidate and expand services, and to support local physicians practicing at the nearby Good Samaritan Hospital & Bed Tower campus. In planning for the project, it was important to the hospital that it could expand ambulatory services and bring a complementary consortium of physicians together under one roof to better serve the community’s healthcare needs.

This LEED Silver, four-story medical building has increased access to comprehensive specialty care. Services include pulmonary, nephrology, OB-GYN, orthopedic, imaging, pain management, and more. As the interior focused on patient needs and comfort, a welcoming environment was created with strategic wayfinding, daylighting throughout the building, state-of-the-art technology, and contemporary design features.

New medical office building becomes an integral part of a growing community with more primary care services and medical specialties

A group of private healthcare entities — MultiCare Health System, Woodcreek Healthcare, Cascade Eye and Skin Centers, and Laboratories Northwest — had the goal of increasing services for a growing community, the population of which nearly doubled within just a decade. A key goal was to create a community-based medical office building that provided a wide range of services in a convenient location, as the group looked to maintain its market share with an exceptional facility while also leveraging the beautiful surrounding landscape.

ERDMAN partnered with these entities to achieve these various objectives, beginning with selecting an ideal site to maximize their market opportunity. Since the completion of the project, the first Class-A medical office space in Bonney Lake, Wash., its owners have achieved greater volume, maintained (and in some cases grown) their market share, expanded the area’s primary care services, and brought more medical specialties to a receptive patient population. The design, convenient location, easily accessible parking, and comprehensive suite of services helped make the facility an integral part of the community.

Our community and campus MOB projects involved a series of transactions and communications among hospitals, private practice physicians, local government, and community stakeholders. Because of ERDMAN’s depth and experience, the group was able to navigate all levels of complexity and translate the projects from concept to reality.

A new healthcare design and operational model will serve multiple populations and offer a comprehensive continuum of care

University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health is looking to transform health care for the area with its Aberdeen Campus. To strengthen its commitment to the community by offering more affordable healthcare, the project will help UM UCH expand its services, improve access to care, and increase efficiency. The goal is to also support coordination between hospital-based and community care providers, as well as implement new care models, supported by state-of-the-art technology.

The project scope includes a freestanding medical facility, behavioral health pavilion, and medical office building. Together, these healthcare facilities offer comprehensive services to support behavioral health patients ranging from crisis and inpatient care to outpatient therapeutic treatment. The Aberdeen Campus will also offer general acute care to the community. As the local populations have very different needs for emergency treatment, the project will create an environment that allows for specialized behavioral health emergency care, while also enhancing staff efficiency.

One-stop multi-specialty care campus captures new market share while enhancing the patient and staff experience

To capture extra market share and consolidate practices into a convenient location, Health First Medical Group envisioned more than a typical medical office building. Targeting an underserved area in need of a multi-specialty clinic, the client desired a healthcare environment that enhances the patient and staff experience, and a design that encourages collaboration and increases flexibility and operational efficiency.

Incorporating bold architectural elements and captivating spaces for staff and patients, ERDMAN embraced evidence-based design to support exceptional patient experiences. Corridors with outside views of a beautiful courtyard and healing garden support intuitive wayfinding, while centralized nursing stations with physician offices located along suite perimeters enhance communication and increase efficiencies for patient support. The new care campus offers a one-stop location for internal medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, surgery, imaging, diagnostics, and more.

Leveraging a collaborative, interactive process to advance effective, patient-centered care delivery

Memorial Hospital of Converse County sought to build a medical office building on their hospital campus to better serve their patients and provide easier access to the care they require. The existing hospital had a dedicated floor of individual medical practices, each with a separate suite, reception area, and overall flow. The challenge was creating cohesive space where the once-siloed practices could function more effectively as one practice with multiple specialties.

ERDMAN provided planning, design, and construction services for the project, utilizing a collaborative, interactive approach that resulted in meeting Memorial Hospital’s goal to deliver services more effectively and efficiently. Located adjacent to the existing hospital campus, the 22,000-square-foot MOB consolidates administrative spaces, provides greater flexibility for future growth and aligns with long-term plans for the organization. Featuring a warm, welcoming environment for patients and their families, the facility expands available services and allows Memorial Hospital to maintain its place as a leader in local healthcare.

Providing a state-of-the-art hospital through cost-effective design

With an aging facility, Livingston HealthCare was asking itself the same tough questions a lot of critical access hospitals do: How can we improve the patient experience? Should we move and rebuild? What’s the best option for funding? For Livingston HealthCare to move forward with a major construction project, it would need to find a viable option that met the changing healthcare needs of area residents, while working within a tight budget.

A condition assessment of its existing facility and site evaluation study confirmed the best path forward was building a new hospital on a new site. ERDMAN worked with Livingston HealthCare to establish a set of guiding principles that established the basis for achieving design excellence and project success. Evidence-based design methodologies were used to create efficient patient flows, improve patient experiences, and increase staff satisfaction. Design features were cost-effective and sustainable, captured the local aesthetic, and maximized access to breathtaking mountain views. Today, Livingston HealthCare has a state-of-the-art critical access hospital that can successfully evolve with its community.

The future of healthcare is redefined in Eastern Long Island with a new campus plan

The Southampton Hospital Association joined forces with a local hospital to create a regional, coordinated network of care along the east end of Long Island. This evolving market is increasingly diverse and greatly impacted by seasonality. Challenges involved addressing increasing competition and an aging hospital overburdened by a large seasonal population. Their vision is to create an exceptional environment of care that is consistent across the network and enabled by advanced technology. Hallmarks of their vision include heightened access to quality care and a cost-effective care delivery model.

ERDMAN conducted an in-depth market analysis for physician supply and demand, as well as for emergency, surgical, diagnostic imaging, and acute care services. Our proprietary population demand methodology allowed the seasonal impact and associated operational effects to be understood and addressed. The resulting conceptual program and estimate aligned the new hospital with a target budget. The future hospital will reimagine how healthcare is delivered in the area.

Southampton Hospital Association engaged ERDMAN to facilitate a strategic planning process to reimagine how healthcare will be delivered on the east end of Long Island. Taking into account the seasonal shifts in population and unique geographic and access challenges of the area, ERDMAN translated the demand for acute care and ambulatory services into a new constellation of care.

The cornerstone of the work entailed right-sizing the conceptual plan and budget for our replacement hospital. The work not only helped us create a foundational program for our system of health and new hospital, but also brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to advance a unified vision to enhance care in the communities we serve.
