“The considerable collaboration between Charter and ERDMAN on the design creates a unique continuum of care that ensures this project will be relevant for years to come.”

Charter Senior Living
In 2018, Charter Senior Living (Charter) sought out ERDMAN as a partner in the development of a new senior living community. This 142-unit senior living project is planned to have independent living cottages, as well as assisted living and memory care units. Located on a 10-acre site, the new community will be located across the river and within walking distance from downtown Oswego, Ill. As part of Charter’s new facility, several goals are driving the design and architecture to best support the wellbeing of future residents and the surrounding community:
By leveraging ERDMAN’s integrated delivery process, this project was approached from various perspectives. Several sites were evaluated and a preliminary market assessment was performed. After this initial review, the Oswego site was selected for a feasibility study. It covered an in-depth site analysis, procurement, programming, as well as preliminary budgeting and scheduling. To support an unmet demand in the community and Charter’s mission of enhancing the human spirit, ERDMAN led discussions to define project goals and align work with the Center for Health Design Process. The new facility will also follow evidenced-based design principles to create an easily accessible, welcoming, and healthy environment for future residents. Construction is expected to start spring 2021. After the project’s completion, a post-occupancy evaluation will be performed to assess how the new facility meets Charters values and project goals.
