NEW 5G WIRELESS NETWORK STANDARDS:

Strategic Impact for Health Providers, Part 1

On July 16, 2016 the U.S. government embarked on a path that will significantly impact the evolution of digital communications and major sectors of the US economy, including healthcare. On that day the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to make the USA the first nation to adopt rules to open standards for full commercial implementation of wireless networks and commercial broadband wireless communications above 24  gigahertz (GHz), the first fifth generation (5G) wireless cellular standard. FCC Chairman, Tom Wheeler, called this the most important action of the FCC this year to “re-shape our communications infrastructure for the coming decade and beyond.” Why should we care? Was this just a press release intended to excite the hardcore tech geeks among us?
