After several years of health system experimentation and slow adoption on the payer side, telemedicine is poised to begin bringing much of its anticipated value to patients and providers. Along the way, providers have learned that creation of a deliberate strategy is crucial to creating a sustainable telemedicine practice.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration – Health Resources and Services Administration (SAMHSA-HRSA) Center for Integrated Health Solutions recently published a point that providers should align telehealth strategy with the health system’s specific strategies. The options for channels and means through which telemedicine can be provided and which sites of care they will align with also requires careful consideration. With a well-formed strategy, telemedicine has the potential to benefit both health systems and patients with high-value, low-cost care.
